Eric Konechny, CEO of Contain Rain Water Systems Inc.

Eric Konechny CEO of Contain Rainwater Systems

According to Eric Konechny, people in the United States aren’t as educated about water collection and containment as Canadians are, and it’s his job to change that. As CEO of Contain Rainwater Systems in Escondido, California, Konechny says, “… We started in Canada, and where I really stepped in was getting involved with the USA market. People are still learning … And that’s what I’m really passionate about. I’m passionate about going out and educating the consumer.”

Rainwater Collection for the 21st Century

Konechny is eager to share with the US market “an innovative way to collect rainwater.” His company’s rainwater-collection container, the Contain Rainwater Wall, is completely safe for irrigating all types of landscaping because it doesn’t leech any harmful chemicals into the water. Since it’s a modular system, Konechny says, “you can collect as much capacity as you like.” And, unlike the conventional rain barrel, it’s slim and cosmetically appealing, which actually increases the attractiveness of your home.

"It’s just as simple as that: You put one in and your neighbor puts one in. Next thing you know your whole block is collecting.”

Rainwater Realities

Konechny points out that “water is a lot more expensive now because there’s a lot less of it,” adding that “with more people moving in and expanding into different areas, (we’re) using a lot more water.”

Yet, he also offers a ray of hope in the face of these unpleasant realities: “As people become more aware and they start incorporating these products into their everyday lives, it really makes a big difference.”

Water for Future Generations

According, to Eric Konechny, the 680 gallons of rainwater that can be collected from a 1,000 square foot roof in California can create a significant impact on the environment. “… If you get the mass population in even a state like California doing the same thing, that’s a lot of water saved every day … a lot of water that goes back into our economy and will continue on for generations and generations.”

And that’s why Eric Konechny will keep following his passion for educating the consumer about modern rainwater collection methods. It’s one way he knows he can make a difference.
