Google 3.0 Vs Web Marketing 3.0

The hiring of Eric Schmidt, in 2001 marked the beginning of the Google 2.0 era. On Jan. 20, 2011, Google announced that Larry Page will be taking over Eric Schmidt as CEO of Google in April of 2011; which will mark the beginning of the Google 3.0 era.

Many former Google employees support and are encouraged by this new change. Others have doubts in his ability to be a “natural” chief executive because of Larry’s dislike for public speaking and having to maintain a daily schedule.

Google had once been known to empower their employees to come up with creative ideas which launched the successful creation of Gmail, the search- based email system. Other creations that were not as successful included Google Buzz, which was created to compete against Twitter and Google Wave, which was a service product that would allow people to collaborate in real time.

With social media being the most commonly used platform of today’s technological world, it’s no secret that Google has been in a constant battle with Facebook in being the internet’s social media dominator. Since inception, Google has lost many top executives to Facebook and on top of that, they are being outpaced by them as the outlet of choice for ad displays. Amit Singhal, Google employee # 190 still feels skeptical about social data and believes that it can be easily manipulated.

The effect of social media in the world of Google has been a constant issue of discussion during Google Executives weekly meetings and I’m excited to see the outcome of all these challenges preceding the integration of Google 3.0.
