My Open Road CEO Jeff Weiss Talks New App

My Open Road CEO, Jeff Weiss, spoke at the Entrepreneur 21 conference regarding a new travel/rewards app his company created that aims to reshape the way retail businesses find new customers. The app is currently patent pending and excitement surrounding its use is great. Motorists earn points for every mile they travel, for playing games and for practicing safe motorist skills and energy-efficient driving. Those using the app are also rewarded for miles spent during public transportation. Accumulated points are then transferred into gift cards from participating retailers or bumper stickers.

"If you can adapt; you can be successful"

The marketing strategy benefits all as motorists earn rewards while retailers expand their customer base. The reward system helps encourage motorists to use the app on a regular and consistent basis and accomplishes another goal important to the company: decreasing accidents related to texting and driving. Weiss said his company is targeting approximately 3 million smart phone users whom they hope will use the app within the next two years.

CEO Jeff Weiss explained that the My Open Road app originated as a device to help deter texting and driving; however, it had difficulty attracting sponsorship. The company changed focus and saw that by incorporating the rewards program with the app, investors were more likely to participate. Weiss pointed out three areas where the new My Open Road map stands apart from its competition.

1. Provides retailers with a marketing system that draws customers to stores regardless of their locations
2. Encourages drivers to conserve energy
3. Encourages safe driving by discouraging the practice of texting and driving

The app also serves a practical purpose, as it is a geo-travel based app. The My Open Road app can help motorists locate nearby restaurants, stores, cafes and more. Those who use the app will continue to accrue points that can lead to rewards. Speaking about the team behind the app, Weiss stated that when working on a project of this magnitude, flexibility is key. He stressed the importance of adapting your business plan, vision and expectations as the ability to work with others and being a team player is critical to success.
