Rod Clark – Marketing Director of Teradek

Southern-California-based Teradek, which produces the HD video-encoding Cube, offers the first camera-top HD video encoders in the world. Rod Clark, their marketing director, describes how the Cube converts signal f rom a camera over a WiFi network to any computer product – or the internet.

Clark talks about revolutionizing the television industry in all its forms, offering “instant dailies” for studio productions hard-pressed for time and independent filmmakers who need a cheap way to get high-quality product to the masses. “Untethered video on set” is what Clark calls this, and he also talks about the product’s versatility in terms of allowing “proxy recording,” which turns a video into a file and is then recorded remotely. He specifically discusses the ways in which the Cube allows for remote recording, saving time by giving “instant dailies.”

"It's really like the Swiss army knife of video encoders...it’s the video TV channel for the everyman on omni-woman."

Integrated with native integration to LiveStream.com, the Cube promises innovations in every field where video is used – f rom news gathering, where the $2100 price tag is significantly lower than a fully-equipped news van (a cool half a mil), to personal internet broadcasts. He cites a Denver news station’s immediate savings when one of their reporters was able to send a 6-minute broadcast home f rom London for a fraction of what it would have cost without the Cube.

While aspects of Clark’s product are already in the marketplace, the Cube ties everything together – at a bargain price. Clark talks about his partnership with Nichol, the CEO of the company, where both partners’ passions – news gathering and film– have the potential to profoundly change both industries.

A strategic company that is working to stick with small, entrepreneurial companies, Teradek is committed to revolutionizing the way we see video on the internet.
